Why I love Patek Philippe Reference 5740/1G-001
Some watches look best in a display case, while others sparkle in a lighted tent. Like my friend's Patek Philippe Reference 3700, the 5740 is, in my experience, a watch that's only truly fascinating when worn on the wrist. I've always found that, like the 3700, the soft feel and solid weight make this watch difficult to take off; when you pull up the sleeve, what you see is a combination of vivid blue and almost soft platinum surround, even Even better than I imagined.

I've always loved blue dials, and this one is special: a truer blue than other Nautilus references, and endowed with Patek Philippe's signature sunray ("sunshine") brushing - not easily visible to the naked eye, but in Close-up images, such as the one below

Other elements of the dial work well, in my opinion, including the size of the subdials, the font chosen for the calendar indices, and the use of a dark background with grainy silver moons and stars for moon phase indicators. I'm sure there are others who are happy that Patek has chosen to make the date numerals the same size, rather than squeezing 27, 29, 3, and 5 like many of the company's more formal perpetual calendars, although I think each method is different in its own way. environment works well.
